Bitburger Brewery: Steam generation with Weishaupt
With more than 200 years of brewing tradition, Bitburger has developed from a former rural brewery into one of Germany's most important private breweries. “Bitte ein Bit” (One Bit, please) is one of the best-known advertising slogans in the brewing industry. Since 2007, the Bitburger, König Pilsener, Köstritzer, and Licher brands have been operating under the umbrella of the Bitburger Brewery Group.
In 2017, the Bitburger Brewery's steam generation system, which had become oversized, was modernized and investments were made in more efficient, resource-saving technology. In addition to biogas from its own production, natural gas is also used as fuel.
Two Weishaupt WKmono 80 monoblock burners in the 3LN multiflam® version, each with a firing capacity of 10.9 MW (one dual-gas and one dual-fuel burner), convert the fuels into process heat. They impress with NOx emissions of a maximum of 75 mg/m3, which are significantly below the limits applicable since January 1, 2025, according to the 44th BImSchV.
Equally important is the improved carbon footprint: the brewery's annual CO2 emissions are reduced by up to 7,000 tons.
