Good climate for koalas and sharks at Ocean Park Hong Kong

To ensure that the animals at Ocean Park Hong Kong feel at home, the facilities must be climate-controlled in line with their natural habitat. A convincing solution is the combination of Weishaupt monarch® WM-G10 dual-fuel burners with directly fired absorption chillers.

What do sharks and Australian marsupials (koalas) have in common? After all, one lives in the sea and the other in trees. But both species benefit from efficient Weishaupt energy technology at Ocean Park Hong Kong. The park uses dual-fuel burners from the German manufacturer to air-condition the relevant enclosures.

A total of four WM-G10/2-A burners supply absorption chillers with thermal energy. This is efficiently converted into cooling or used for heating and hot water production. The park operates the Weishaupt burners with liquefied petroleum gas or town gas.

Ocean Park Hong Kong was founded in 1977 and has been continuously developed ever since. The park combines the work of a zoological garden with numerous leisure activities such as shows and rides. It is considered one of the ten most popular amusement parks in the world.

One of its main themes is life in and around the sea. Among the park's particular successes is the breeding of rare shark species. These can be seen in the shark pavilion of the Chengdu Haichang Polar Ocean World, which opened in 2010. Cable cars and wire rope lifts connect the park's “Waterfront” and “Summit” areas.
