Heat supply for Bremen's Überseestadt district
The history of swb began on September 23, 1854, with the commissioning of a gasworks in downtown Bremen—the birth of public energy supply in Bremen. Today, swb AG reliably supplies its customers with electricity, natural gas, heat, light, and drinking water, as well as services related to plant maintenance, wastewater, and telecommunications. Its activities are focused on the core region of Bremen, Bremerhaven, and the surrounding area.
The area supplied by the medium-calorific power plant at the swb site in the port also includes the attractive urban development project Bremer Überseestadt. The power plant has been equipped with a new gas-fired hot water boiler to provide redundant backup for the district heating supply.
Two Weishaupt WKG80/2-A ZMH-4LN gas burners for natural gas E, each with a firing capacity of 20.5 MW, serve as heat generators. In addition to external recirculation and electronic control, the burners are equipped with speed and O2 control. NOx emission values are 40-45 mg/m3, which is well below the limits set by the 44th BImSchV.
4LN burners return part of the burner exhaust gases to the combustion process. This further reduces the formation of nitrogen oxides (NOx) because the oxygen supply in the hot reaction zone of the flame decreases and the flow velocity in the burner increases. The 4LN technology can also be used in demanding conditions and with preheated combustion air.
