Weishaupt supplies district heating for St. Gallen
The newly built Lukasmühle district heating plant in St. Gallen (Switzerland) relies on Weishaupt 3LN burners with patented multiflam® technology. Among other things, the heating plant is equipped with two 110,000 MBH (32 MW) peak load boilers. Both boilers are equipped with two Weishaupt dual-fuel burners of type WKGL80/1-A 3LN multiflam® as heat generators. The burners are operated with natural gas or heating oil. The burners achieve a total heat output of 220,000 MBH (64 MW).
The combination of a generous combustion chamber diameter and the patented Weishaupt 3LN multiflam® technology results in NOx emissions that are significantly below the latest limit values – even without external exhaust gas recirculation. The highly flexible system thus achieves exemplary low NOx emission values. When operating with natural gas, these are a maximum of 37.5 ppm (75 mg/m3), and with heating fuel oil, a maximum of 65 ppm (130 mg/m3).
These 3LN burners are a development stage of the patented multiflam® technology, which has been continuously refined over more than 25 years. It is the key to achieving very low NOx values in large combustion plants even without external measures. This is exactly the right solution for the current challenges faced by many plant operators.
Among other things, the Lukasmühle district heating plant covers peak loads and ensures a redundant heat supply, particularly in the east of St. Gallen. The project is considered a milestone for the city's Energy Concept 2050.
